Koopa 2, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Posted by Lambtaco - November 19th, 2009

I got New Super Mario Bros. Wii on Sunday, and it's awesome, way better than the DS game. Seriously, you should buy it. If you don't have a Wii, buy one and this game.

Anyway, playing the game has gotten me interested in doing Koopa 2 again. For the past few weeks I haven't been working on anything Flash-wise. It happens. But I really needed to fix a few things. There are so many parts of repeated code, where I really should have used functions and such, including the player, which was a huge mistake. Anyway, all that made the game very hard to edit, so I had to go in and fix it all. It's not all fixed, but the player is, and it has hundreds of lines of code on it.

Another problem looms though. The file is getting really big and complex, meanwhile my computer is getting old and outdated. I fear I may reach the point where it becomes very hard to work on the game with my current hardware (it takes forever to save the file). So long story short I need a new computer. Until I reach that point I'll keep working on the game.

I'm also working on two other games. One, which I call Goobie, is a somewhat physics based collection-oriented platformer; I'll probably release a demo of it soon. And the other, a more secretive project, is something done in a NES game style. Maybe I'll get a sponsorship and some ads in these games to buy a new computer. I'll probably be releasing both these projects before Koopa 2 is finished, because they're both much smaller. Koopa 2 will have somewhere around 60 levels, 8+ bosses, tons of power-ups, and dozens of different types of enemies. The other games aren't so complex.

Happy Chinchilla Day.

I've looked at video's of the game on youtube and it looks awsome, maybe "santa" will bring it.
I have some music ideas for koopa 2.
1) Castle- <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/256960">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/256960</a>

Also I made a comment in the previous newspost and you didn't respond yet. Did you forget?

1) 1. A little on the intense side. And it loops like crap. 2. Too much of a medieval fantasy sound, and it's a little fruity. Good lenght though. 3. Seems a little bland and repetive. 4. Ridiculously epic, but in a good way. I'll probably end up using this, but maybe not int Koopa 2.

1) 1. Interesting, but it's a bit too much for the game. 2. A little too slow, you're going to be popping underground for a few seconds at a time, remember. Not bad, just not right for the game. 3. Too ambient. 4. This one's quite slow. Definitely not Mario. 5. Not entirely bad, but really not Mariolike. It's supposed to be quick and quirky.

Power-up idea
How about a turquoise shell with ice powers. It could stop you from sliding on ice and make you immune to ice related harm (like how the white shell protects you from lava) and makes koopa slide like a penguin and let's him smash through blocks without bouncing off like in NSMB WII's penguin suit.
If this was used it would be an obscure nod to luigi's mansion because in that game there were fire, water and ice ghosts and the orange shell is fire, the blue shell is water and the turquise shell would be ice. Also let's face it, luigi's masion was a good game.

The not sliding on ice thing is cool, but immune to ice seems a bit useless. He can already slide in his shell so he doesn't need to slide like a penguin. The red shell allows him to smash through blocks already.
I'll probably give the ice traction to the Blue shell and pass on light blue shell altogether.

What world are you on for New Super Mario bros. Wii?
