It's Alive!

So, I'm alive. Had some stuff happening, went on vacation, had some computer troubles, but I'm alive.

I solved some technical problems that were making it just about impossible to work on Koopa 2. Before you ask, still not done world 3. I'm working on several other projects right now.

Power of Three, I've been working on, on and off, since it started. Expect to see that eventually. Looking good so far, can't say much because it's not entirely mine to talk about. Maybe at a later date.

Another project of mine is a Flash Game, sort of an 8-bit NES style. Also somewhat secretive. I'd like this one to remain pretty much in the closet until it's ready. Currently about 60-70% done.

I'm also making a webcomic, due to start September first. I wanted to try something different, as in not a flash game. I'm thinking it will be a three comics per week thing, but if I can get maybe forty or so done before launch date I may do five per week or even daily. I've gotten dozens of strips written but only about ten made up so far.

Aside from those I have a few projects I'm not actively working on (meaning I haven't worked on them in a few months) including a cartoon about the evils of Switzerland, and that physicsy platformer. I'll also be doing some minor changes to my website layout. For one thing it's going to be wider, it's outdatedly narrow.

Over and out.

So you're alive? That's a relief, i was starting to get worried. i've been checking your usepage everyday for three months looking for signs of a pulse.

If you have all these projects does it mean koopa 2 is on another hiatus? Have you started work on the boss?

I have as usual a number of ideas for koopa 2.

Music

Ice:- <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/40090">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/40090</a>
- <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/162354">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/162354</a>

Map- <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/271400">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/271400</a>

Plains- <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/171267">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/171267</a> (you could cut off the first few seconds)

Lbp note
I have earned a gold trophy for acing all story mode levels! Pretty good huh? Also have you played my levels? Parts nine and ten have been *heavily* updated.

My book
I've sent my book off to an agent a few weeks ago; hopefully they will like it. If you want I could send you the first chapter and prologue.

Good to know your alive; I thought you were in hospital or something.

You know, you could PM me or something if you're that concerned.

I wouldn't say it's officially on hiatus, it's one of the few projects currently in my rotation, though it's been getting the least attention. Haven't started the boss, I have some design done, but nothing to speak of in Flash.

Musics, Ice: Got the right idea, but the bass guitar kinda ruins it for me. Close, but no cigar.
Ice 2: Not feeling it. Too much guitar maybe.
Map: This could even be too calm. Just kinda boring.
Plains: Too much ambience, and a slow start. This would never be the first level of a 2D Mario game.

LBP. Good job acing all those levels. The mexican level with the bombs and jetpacks gave me too much trouble ot bother going for it. Haven't played your levels, haven't had my PS3 online for the most part. Just got Super Street Fighter IV, which may give me enough reason to reconnect.

Good luck with your book. I'll read it if it gets published. I hate reading large amounts of text off a computer screen.

Hospitals are for pussies.

Good to see you responded quickly; hopefully you'll be on newgrounds more often now.

Enemy idea

Name: Hedgey Harold

World: 4

Description: A green bush with shoes. Can be used a jump platform and if koopa stand close it will poke out sharp sticks (spikes) like the boss in scoop. If fire it used the leaves set on fire and when they clear an acorn with pink white hearted panties is visable with a blush.

Boss objects

Do any of these interest you?

1) Pumpkin/jack-o-lantern (could grow spider legs, breath fire and roll)

2) Pencil case. (Ink floods, pencil spikes, earaser boms)

3) NES controller (or the whole NES)

4) Christmas present. (Not sure but could go well with ice world)

5) Mirror (would reverse controls for fight.

Question.
1) You know the wizard guy that turns the objects into the bosses? Do we ever get to fight him at some point?

I'll try to NG myself up a bit. Finally got that plaque put up.

The Hedgey Harold seems to puzzle-oriented. Jumping on it may as well kill it. And the fire death may get old fast. Fireflowers will probably be prevalent in world 4. IF I can make it look interesting I'll use it.

Boss objects:
1) I might use them for some kind of enemy, but I don't think as boss.
2) The problems is there's no really universal design for a pencil case.
3) Too obvious.
4) I don't really want to associate the game with xmas, or any other big holiday. Too strong of an association. Hallowe'en maybe.
5) Reverse controls are annoying, especially when they are forced on you. Plus, what would it look like, just an old antique mirror?

Answer: It'd be pretty disappointing of you didn't.

wow its been so long since you were away and i was away. i tought you were having internet problems.

is there any world with no boss and need ideas for it? -wondering-

Worlds 5 and 6 don't really have anything as far as bosses go.

whats the theme for 5 and 6?

Sky and ice.

Guess what game I got today? the original N64 Banjo-Kazooiie! Now I just need to wait for the console to arrive LOL.

Music ideas

Final boss: I know you already have a theme but this one sounds perfect
<a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/332672">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/332672</a>
(Could also work for airship or volcano)

Ice: <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/354925">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/354925</a>
This could be THE song I have spent months searching for; it sounds icy, could be in a platformer AND reminds me of the N64 and SNES.

Map: <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/339511">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/339511</a>
Sounds like an old english village in the middle ages.
<a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/328438">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/328438</a>
A classic theme you'll probably have heard in the golden era (80's)

Menu: <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/308135">http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/308135</a>
What exactly do you want for the menu song because I don't think you've told me.

I think this batch of songs is the best yet. Do you agree?

I don't even know where my N64 is.

Boss Music: Epic, but I can't exactly see it in a Mario Game.
Ice: Really good, song, but it's too intense and has a bit too much buildup. Would work for many other Retro games, but Mario has a music style of it's own
Map 1: Closer than usual. But it still feels too much like an RPG. IF you're going to do more map suggestiosn give a listen to the mario map songs on Youtube or somethin'.
Map 2: Sounds kinda deserty. It's too intimidating. Needs pep. Don't recall ever hearing this in the '80s, but I was an infant at the time so I may have forgotten.
Menu: Let's just say no Tubba Blubba remixes.
I don't really know what I want for the menu. It might end up just being the map song. Something that says the game is fun. Not so strict on this one, but I 'll know what I like when I hear it.

It's certainly one of the better batches you've given me overall song quality wise.

Enemy ideas

Name: Gelatinous Cube

Appearence: A clear cube of ooze with a beady eye. Also has a coin inside for if it is killed.

What it does: The cube is quite slow and moves back and forth endlessly. Tounching it from the sides is a bad idea but it can be used as a jump pad. If you jump on it from the top once you'll go high, the sencond time even higher and the third time is the charm as you'll go sky high; possibly into secret areas normally not reachable.

How to kill: Use a hammer, Starman or bone. Fire isn't as effective but can kill it after five shots.

Name: Bat-shroom

Appearence: An eerie purple mushroom with bat wings, fangs, and tiny legs.

What it does: Remember the bats in super mario world? The bat shroom acts like them. It hangs on cave ceilings and flies down when Koopa is close. That's how the small ones act. The bigger ones swoop down in an arc with the "mrrwow" sound effect twice before settling back on the cave ceiling.

How to kill: Anything works.

Name: Magi-mages

Appearence: Like the guy who turns the objects into bosses but have their hoods slightly down revealing toad faces. Soem have green robes and some have red robes.

What it does: They patrol a set path and when they spot koopa they do one of two things. the green ones cast magic missile (a d&d spell which is basically a seeking energy ball) which has to be outran. The red ones send out a beam off fire along the ground in front of them.

How to kill: Anything works.

What do you think of the enemies? Like them? And also is there a particular type of enemy you need or perhaps you need more enemies for a certain theme.

Gelatinous Cube: Wayne's World, eh? I'm not sure I like the whole thing, but the idea of a jelly type cube doesn't completely throw me off.

Bat-shroom: I do want to use bats, but I don't want to just make them mushrooms. I may end up doing that if I never come up with anything better.

Magi-mages: Redundant name, lol. BAsically a magikoopa with different attacks. I assume they'd only appear in castles.

Not bad ideas this time, 2 of 3 lack creativity.

Boss idea

Object: Battery.

World: 5

Attack pattern: 1) Will follow after koopa like the first boss but slightly faster.
2) Shoots lasers out of its eyes at where koopa is standing.
3) Node comes out of head and the boss glows.
4) The node charges up and balls od electricity fly al over the arena except behind the boss.

When is it vulnerabe: when the node comes out and it glows.

Hits to beat: 4

What do you think? Could it work?

Your most implementable boss suggestion yet. I might use it, but as a pair of batteries that operate together. Maybe they generate a current, between them that covers the floor like the final boss in DKC3. And the hop on each other's heads. Maybe they could be fought as singles all over the level, but when you get to the end you fight like 4 of them.

Hi! I know a song for boss battles you could do the same boss music (Falling demons) as you did for the first koopa's revenge. That's all I could think of. When will it be done?

I don't want to repeat any songs. I can't say when it will be done because I'm always wrong.

for sky boss you can make an airplane

attacks:

dashing: goes from left to right and the opposite way a few times
bombing attack: flies on top of the screen and drops bombs from the sky
crazy homing missle: shoots a missle that tries to go after you, but after it gets out of control and goes crazy and crashes into the airplane and falls down on the platform (chance to attack)

hits: 5

for ice boss i think of having an ice cream

attacks:

ice cream roll: throws huge ice creams like bowling balls at you
slush attack: showers slush in random places, making the player freeze for a few
Recool: opens the 'fridge' behind the boss and enters it and stays for a few seconds (chance to attack)

hits: fridge: 5, ice cream: 1

also 2 enemies for ice level

popsicle: acts like penguins and slides when sees player
Slushie: shoots slush that freezes the koopa when sees player

I like some aspects of the airplane. like how it shoots itself. Maybe a boss that you have to make shoot itself.

Not digging the icecream. But I do like the idea of having popsicles as enemies, maybe not as you described them though.

I've had a great boss idea!

Object: Potted plant

World: 6

Attacks:
1) Jumping around
2) Spitting vegetables
3) Slamming its arms
4) Biting

How to kill: Avoid the plant's jumps and other attacks until it gets tired. Jump on both its bulb hands. When they burst the boss cries like a baby and becomes vulnerable. Jump on its head to cause damage. Repeat four more times for victory. Oh; and the battle takes place on ice.

Not bad, but I don't think I'll use it.

New Ideas

Boss: Snowman

World: Ice

Attacks:

1: throws snowballs at you (sometimes high sometimes low)
2: ice spikes drop from the ceiling all over the stage
3: nose carrot acts like a rocket and then stops at a certain time

snowman hops or slides slowly after the carrot (chance to be attacked)

Hits: 3

another boss in case you didnt like the snowman

Boss: Banana Split

attacks:

1: spawns a few ice enemies until you kill them all
2: shoots tiny bananas like a rocket at you, high or low
3: holds out its big banana and smashes on you

After it tries to smash you, it will take a few seconds to try get back into the banana split, so you get the chance to attack the banana. trying to attack the ice cream will just make you slip off. (sort of like a whomp in SM64 or SMG2)

I think a snowman is too anthropomorphised.

I'm not a fan of bosses spawning enemies. It seems lazy on the part of the designer. Otherwise, not a bad idea, but I don't think I'll use it.

Thanks anyway.

ok. another idea...

Boss(es):

1: Name: Toad Bros (ice or air)
NOTE: two toads which looks almost the same except either different colors, cloathing size etc etc.

Attacks:

1: start throwing hammers high and low, catching them
2: goes in the center of the arena and one of them spins the other and he starts spinning all around the stage after you. will fall down and dizzy for a few (chance to attack)
3: After the 'spinner' gets defeated, the other Toad will go crazy and throw the hammers randomly. he gets dizzy and another chance to attack.
4: when both are defeated, they stand back up and jump on each other, they do a final big spin attack and fall down.
