A Koopa's Rebenge II Big Update

Some of you may know I've been planning to release some big news for AKRII. Well, this is that news. I've got some good news, and some bad news.

First the bad news. I'm cutting a lot out of the game. World's 4-7 will be condensed into two smaller worlds. The forest and ice world's are being combined into a forested snowy mountain, and the volcano world is being cut entirely. The Yoshi King mini-boss fights have also been cut, they would have been a real pain to test.

The good news is that because of those cuts, the game will be done MUCH sooner. I reduced the total number of levels that needed to be made from 17 to 7. The remianing levels will be more varied, so I should get less level-designer's-block when making them. I'm aiming for a release on the fifth anniversary of AKR1's release in January.

The progress. World 3 is now completely done. All four levels, the boss, and the switch palace. The first level of the mountain world is also completed (It was originally for the first world but was too hard)

I'll be updating the music post shortly to reflect the cuts.

ive been looking for it the whole game :/ and i mean loads of levels and worlds.. before it was 80 levels and 8 worlds. then 40 lvls and 7 worlds.. now its 5 worlds?

Oh, I'm sorry, let's see the dozens of levels Flash based platform game you made all by yourself. Just for that, you don't get to play the game at all when it comes out. :p

i dont 'make' flash games... i play em.

Hmm; so many cuts ... but I don't really mind. It just means the game will be out sooner as you said. Too bad about thew yoshi king but sometimes you've got to trim the fat.

I really like the look of the mountain world; it looks a bit like the island from the original 8 bit sonic for the game gear.

I have some music suggestions; maybe some will be great.

How do tyou know gamegear? They stopped maing those before you were born.

Map 1) I like some aspects of it. But the xylophone is just too much. And it's unnecesarily long. 2/5
Map 2) Too ambient. Needs to feel more jolly. Have some kind of melody. 1/5
Plains 1) Doesn't at all feel right. Almost spacey. I really don't get plains out of this. Sounds more like robots. Runs pretty long. 1/5
Plains 2) Those damn hirns again. Sounds medieval. 1/5
Cave 1) Doesn't feel Mario. And I don't want to make it an absolute rule, but no piano. 1/5
Cave 2) Ambient start. No way this would ever be in a Mario game. 0/5
Boss) Definitely wouldn't work for regular bosses. And doesn't work for my planned final boss. 1/5

Hi, New here. I've played AKR and the demo of AKR2. Just have some questions about the game:

1)So if you have 7 levels more to make, does that mean it'll be 25 levels?
2)Looked at the map, where is the blue switch palace located?
3)Why did I see Roy Koopa in a bubble when watching the vid?
4)Koopa, Goomba are playable... does that mean Shy Guy will be too?

1) Yes, 25. I'm not surehow you figured that out.
2) It's a secret.
3) You need to rescue all 7 koopalings to get the good ending.
4) Most likely. I'm still not 100% certain about it.

Oh yeah, got some more questions:
1)Will there be achievements and medals for the game?
2)Whats the castle in the first world for? Just wondering.
3)Will the S on your first map still be added into the real game?
4)What's gonna happen to the Yoshi King?

How did I know that there'll be 25 levels? Well I compared it to your old map and got some ideas where the levels are located. I have a good idea where that blue switch palace is going to be. :p

1) Maybe, I haven't looked into it yet. But the game keeps track of a lot of things that can be made into achievements of some sort.
2) It houses the boss.
3) MAYBE.
4) He's just gone.

About the Yoshi King, aww that must really suck how he's taken out. You will add secret levels and a secret power-up place won't you? ;)

Yeah. It's not going to be as full of secret levels as I once hoped, but there will be some. Secret power-up place is in there, someplace.

In the ghost house sections of the video, the enemies don't seem to do much. Am I missing something there?
Also, are there multiple levels in the world with the big castle?
And finally, what kind of music do you need for the final boss? Slow and menacing, upbeat and exciting or heroic, or epic and evil?
I'm glad it'll be coming out sooner, and the umbrella boss looks cool. Good job so far.

The ghosts will make a little more sense when you play the game. Or maybe not. I might change that level a bit.

Final boss is pretty much set for music. Definitely epic though, and mechanical.

The castle itself will be only on level (or will it?) But it will probably be one of the longer levels.

MCSM, can you show us the slight map changes you mentioned on your site? Sorry, just very curious. :)

An Enemy Idea:

Digger Mole

Appearance: Looks like a bit like Monty the Mole but smaller and colored yellow

Function: Moves fast but when you jump on it, it'll make a hole in the ground where you squished it and can make you die if on normal ground. But it can be helpful to dig a hole wherein there are obstacles that you have to reach the other side of the walls in a level.

Sorry if its function is hard to understand...

Interesting, but I think it's too puzzle-platformer type enemy. I'm having trouble fitting all my own enemy ideas into the remaining game anyway. Only six levels left to make.

I notice that you've kept the airship music in the music post, despite the lack of airship on the map. Could this be the secret castle level you keep hinting at?

Nope, I just never drew it. It's going to be in the final world.

3) Arrgh. I must say, I'm very addicted to Koopa's Revenge! Can you release a demo of the game where you can only play the whole world 1? (I won't be surprised if you won't do it... just a tiny suggestion)

1) Not exactly. But I'm not completely sure of that, I haven't put that in the game yet.
2) Pipemos. Probably.
3) Nope, not this close to finishing, plus the save files would be incompatible with the final version and that would piss people off.
