A Koopa's Revenge 2 Beta v0.93

Posted by Lambtaco - July 3rd, 2014

Here we have the first "finished" version of the game. And I want all the beta testers to help to make sure I didn't break anything before we move on to a more widespread gamma testing phase. It might be wise to skip over the changelist if you don't want things spoiled.

The Beta

  • First, the biggest change of all. The super finalest most lastest boss I've been teasing is finally here. So, i you've collected all the silver coins and rescued all 7 Koopalings, have at 'er.

  • You can select a level by clikcing on it with the mouse.

  • The pause menu shows you which file you most recently loaded/saved so you won't accidentally save over the wrong file.

  • ? Blocks are coloured differently in different levels.

  • All the map animations are complete.

  • The intros for bosses are skipped atomatically after you've seen them once.

  • I reworked the fifth bosses cycles a bit to make him faster to fight.

  • Many, many more small tweaks.

  • I reused a few songs from the first game to fill in gaps in the soundtrack. They won't be staying, especially the menu theme

I'll also take this opportunity to officially say I'm not taking on beta testers any more. I will however, be taking on gamma testers, though they won't get to play for a few days. I need the game in a near complete and unbroken state to get perspectives on how the game will be received as a finished product. So get in there and break the game.

Koopa 2 will be out in this month or august?

August.

Gonna get everything past... again :|

You shouldn't have to. Your save file should carry over between versions.

So is the next version you're putting out in the new gamma test phase?

I'll probably release another one in the next few days, to fix what the last update broke and make any other small changes prompted by the beta testers. But right after that the gamma testing will start.

It took a LOT of lives to do it, but I did it! I defeated the super secret final boss!

Definitely a challenging final encounter; the combination of Mario's attacks (particularly the hand beam) and the fact the platforms are all falling and can be destroyed made it a very hard boss, but definitely a satisfying one to complete. Plus, the secret gained from beating the boss is definitely worthwhile.

At this point the only thing I have left to unlock is the cheat activated by code. How do I get the code? Is it hidden in the game somewhere? A pointer would be nice.

Excellent. I'm glad I was able to pull it off.

You can find the code in the game now. It's hidden in plain sight, but you can't always see it. Search within the house of spirits.

The problem is that almost every month my mom clean the cookies :|

That sucks. I remember not having my own computer. My condolences.

:( I hope some miracle lets newgrounds work for me, this is really wierd. :(

Have you tried different browsers?

so , basically , gamma testers are like pre-release usual users ? To know what could looks like the feedback in August?

If yes , I haven't been a Beta , but I sure would love to be a gamma....gotta play the first one again though , been YEARS ever since.

I would've got a good boss song , but the music have been taken out of newgrounds....it was in "It's a Nice Day Today" , the hot fiery song , but...really sad it has been taken away.

Pretty much yeah. I've invested too much in this project to just toss it out there.

I'll add you to the list.

That sucks, but I'm sure it was removed for a reason.

Just some music, first song being finalest boss music, I know you already have the boss music for him and you didn't post about needing it, but I felt this fit good.

The second song was for the normal boss fights, I think it sounds good and fits.

The third song is another boss song, I think im suggesting too many boss songs.

The fourth song is good for the first castle music, I liked the original first castle music, but I could understand why you wanted to replace it, didn't sound like Mario music.

The fifth song has a lot of potential, I just don't know where it'll fit with what you want, im thinking you'll most likely not use it. I just wanted to show you this because I thought it sounded cool and thought it had lots of potential.

The sixth song, just a song suggestion.

The seventh song is a good fit for the map day music.

The reason I suggested a ton of battle songs or something similar to that was because I couldn't find the perfect main menu/credits, underground day, or ghost house music, sorry if it seemed repetitive.

Some of these are followed links, so it looks like I came across a few of these already.

Song 1. It's certainly epic, but I don't feel it has the energy that the fight requires. I do like that it loops though.

Song 2. Doesn't really start out strong enough. And this may sound weird, but it almost sounds too final.

Song 3. I don't think it really goes with the theme of the game. Definitely too intense for the standard boss fights.

Song 4. The soundtrack from that game is too iconic for me to lift anything from it without some really strong parallels. It does kick ass though.

Song 5. Interesting piece. It may work for a game that's a bit more long form.

Song 6. This one would feel out of place. And I personally don't think the sort of build up this song has works for a video game soundtrack, at least not an old school one.

Song 7. Certainly better than the one I'm using now. But not quite right to make it into the game. Needs a touch more energy. It's just got too much of that lazy feeling.

Thanks for the suggestions, and sorry I'm not using any of them. The critiques are there to help anybody who wants to make suggestions get an idea of what I'm loooking for. I'm aware I'm being oustandingly picky about the game's music.

And don't worry about suggesting multiple songs for one purpose.
