New Sketch "Procrasturbation" & Details on AKR2 v1.1

Posted by Lambtaco - September 30th, 2014

Firstly, check out my new comedy sketch. It'll only take a minute.

I'm trying to get my youtube channel going, and I'll be posting videos every other week on Lambta.co Tuesdays. I'll also be uploading to NG when applicable. For instance I've got some cartoons in the pipeline.

Secondly, I've started work on the first real revision to A Koopa's Revenge 2. Now that the initial bug fixes and such are done, I'll be working on some more in depth changes to the game, including walljumping mechanics. Full details on that can be found http://lambta.co/akr2-v1-1-devblag-entry-1-feedback-requested/

I'm looking for more feedback on AK2. So if there's anything you want to say, give a shout. No issue too small.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I don't know what you did, but whatever you did, you turned lag into almost nothing. Seriously, almost no lag appears when I play, before v1.05, I lagged a ton.

Anyway, cool update, 1.1 is going to be a nice update too from what I read.

The sketch pretty much shows the story everyones life, haha.

I didn't change anything that should effect lag. So, that's really weird. Are you sure you didn't change your settings or even play on a different site?

Should be pretty nice. Not much new in terms of content, but the game should play better. It might need some testing.

Indeed.

Do you still work on Koopa 2?

Yeah. Didn't you follow the link?

I think that will be a Koopa 3.
Princess Rosalina boss.

I didn't even think of that.

All in all, I'd say Koopa 2 has ended up really well. Great mechanics, excellent fun factor, replayable and plenty of secrets. I'm gonna try and find time to leave a full review soon.

I've been meaning to ask, with Koopa 2 done ... think you might work on that Mega Tankman full game you made a journal about a long time ago? You know, the one with robot masters like Milk Man, Scat Man and French Man?

Maybe a bit later. I've got a few smaller and a medium sized game to do first. Not to mention AKR2 v1.1.

This might be unrelated, but I just beat Koopa 2 and OH MY GOD MY NAME WAS IN THE CREDITS

OMG, SO WAS MINE! ;)

By the way, I have (kind of) beaten AKR2. I still have yet to unlock 5-4, and the only reason I managed to win the game was with the space jump. I also skipped world 5-2.

But anyways, here's my opinion on the game.

Level design = 7/10
World 1 and the first half of World 2 are very easy (with the exception of 1-2). They're very fun to play. The second half of World 2 onwards is a bit tricky (but world 5 is what REALLY makes you pull your hair out), but it's forgivable as long as you're somewhere before World 4-3.

Bosses = 5/10
Popmo is very easy and my favorite boss. Saladro is somewhat difficult without the space jump. Umbrelltar is just frustrating, angering, and engaging. And so is Burgerstein. However, the final boss isn't terribly frustrating, it just requires five tries and a walkthrough view in order to beat him.

Enemies = 8/10
My favorite enemy is easily Pipemo. It's a real shame he only appears in 3-2 and 5-1, and a secret exit in the second ghost house. But my least favorite enemy would have to be those annoying hopping birds in 5-1. But that's the only enemy (along with the sun in 2-4) I truly dislike.

Ghost Houses = 7/10
The first ghost house is the one that I have more memories of. I was stuck on it for months until I decided to cut through the spike path. I still enjoy that ghost house though, and I usually go there to get power ups after dying in another level. The second ghost house is okay. I kind of enjoy it, and it seems pretty solid. Unfortunately it doesn't have as many powerups as the first house though.

Music = 8/10
My favorite music is the night ghost house music. I love it. I also enjoy the first castle music and the boss music. The only music I don't find memorable is the night cave music. It's a weird choice for the game. I'd take the original music for it. For those who miss the original music, they might want links to the old music though.

I'd rate the game five stars despite it's frustrating fifth world.

That's what it's there for. Also or screwing around.

I will give paragraph for paragraph response.

Why does everyone have trouble with 1-2? I kept making it easier. I don't think any level is truly hard until 3-4.

Glad I went and redid Popmo; there's an old video of his original fight on youtube, and it's pretty crappy compared to his new incarnation. Umbreltar was a huge pain in the ass when he had 5 hits. The final boss form is really more of a spectacle thing than a challenge. IF you want a truly challenging boss, unlock 5-4. Also, walthroughs are for quitters.

If I used Pipemo too often, he wouldn't be as surprising. I fiddled with the Huffin Puffins a lot, but I never got them to the point where they felt completely fair.

The second ghost house has just as many powerups, if not more. You just have to know where to look.

Glad somebody liked the boss music. The cave night music was a compromise. IT came down to crunch and I needed music, so I went with the less fitting song over the annoying one.

Woo! Five Stars! That's much higher than the average of your /10 ratings. I suppose it's a case of being greater than the sum (average in this case) of it's parts.

Actually, I've beat the game on your website, and I'm on 5-4 there.
