Koopa 2 Progress

I've made some progress in Koopa 2. Fixed a bunch of coding stuff and made 2 new levels. I'm able to make levels alot faster than I thought. About 1 per day, plus a bit more time when I need to make a new enemy or object. The levels seem a little shorter than AKR1, but a bunch of people complained they were too long anyway.

I'm calling on my fans for a couple of things. First, I need some better music to replace the song in the demo. I liked it at first, but that song gets irritating fast. The song also needs to fit, so it can't be power metal or something like that, it needs to be music you wouldn't be surprised to hear in a Mario game.

Second, I need some enemy ideas for an undeground level. They should be normally good guys like the rest of the AKR enemies. Something to act like a Buzzy Beetle would be great.

I'm also looking for day and night songs for each level theme. Some levels will be day and some night. This is so you won't hear the same desert song over and over in the desert world for example. I have a lot of songs already, but I'd like to replace them with something better. Here are the level themes:

Plains, a standard 2D Mario level (like in the demo)
Forest, kinda dark and mysterious
Sky, like up in the clouds, fast paced music
Shrooms, on top of giant mushrooms (like SMB or NSMB)
Caves, there are always caves
Ice, bright and white
Under Water, obligatory level theme
Desert, dry and hot
Volcano, lots of lava and fire
Ghost Houses, I want them to be really spooky
Castles, each of the 7 or 8 castles will have it's own musical theme
Map, I still need some good map music.
Bonus Stage, fast and peppy, full of fun

It seems like I'm asking a lot, but it's all voluntary,and you're on newgrounds so it's unlikely you have something important to do. Remember to use the Audio Portal.

1) Underground levels eh =) Well you could use shelloadlets, grey toadlets like inspectertaz suggested only they have only their legs visable besides the hat. They act like buzzy beetles. And their are spiked ones to replace spiny's.

1) I like where you're going with this. I could just be some kind of mushroom.
2) Hmm. Reminds me of a city. Which theme do you think it could go with?

5) Axe Murderer: It's a little too long, it takes half the length of this song to beat a level,and I think you've suggested this one before. Ice Cream Truck: That's more like it.
6) The song seems to suggest exploration, while the game is quite linear. It's too mush of a contrast methinks. But it's a good one, so I may reconsider.
7) It's got totally the wrong feeling. I don't want despair, I want perk. This would be more suitable for a different genre.
8) Bristles are too generic.
9) I see you searched "mushroom" in the audio portal too. I think this one's got too much bass.
10) I can't say. Setting deadlines for me never helps anyone. I can say I'm still less than half done, but that doesn't mean it willl be done in more or less time than I've been working on it so far. It really depends on how many breaks I take. There are times when I don't touch the game for a week. These should be less frequent now that most of the programming is out of the way.

Also what do the pictured yoshi's do?

The boss fight may very well be over while the song is still warming up. The boss songs especially have to be fast into the action.
The yoshis act pretty much exactly like Rex in SMW.

I was considering making a speedrun mode, but I figure someone would just hack the scoreboard anyway. You're welcome to play the song for yourself while playing though.

Hey in the final battle in koopa revenge 2 how about this: koopa apears at the scene mario absorbs bowser and becomes Giga Bowser and the only way to free him is to destroy mario and then u fill in the rest Grandmasterchaotix out.

That is WAY too DBZ for my tastes.

1) There a lot of remixes of that song on NG. I've got another one that has less bass as the night music right now. I still want to replace it though.
2) That's used in too many things already. I don't want my game to sound like another game. (I'm aware of the irony)
3) All the map songs you link seem to fit better in an RPG. This is a step in the right direction, but it's still gets me imagining random encounters.
4) I already have that song as my day forest. It's starting to get on my nerves though.

I like the simplicity of it. I think I'll have to listen to this while playing the game to decide.

1) I think I want my castles to be a little more intense. I'm trying to create a contrast between the Ghost Houses/Castles and the regular levels.
2) First song is definitely not Mario enough. Second song hurts my ears. Just because it has pyramid in the title doesn't mean it will work.
3) It's more piratey than underwater.
4) The first is the link form (3) and I think I like the second, but I'll have to see if it fits. The third song strikes me as too static.
5) I do like Castlevania music, but I don't think this song fits.

More enemy ideas.
1) How about piantas that ground pound and appear in deserts.
2) I know i have suggested this before but will hammer toads be used
3) Good guy versions of fry guys
4) An enemy i have made up is jumpers that have a pogo stick for a leg and have the upper torso of a poorly made mario.
5) Finnaly since i am running out of ideas you could use yoshi egg torpedo teds for underwater stages like smw's soda lake.

1) Why would Piantas appear in the desert, they live on a tropical island.

3) But what would really distinguish their behaviour from the other enemies. That's what I want in new enemies, new behaviour, not new appearances.
4) I like te idea of pogo enemies.
